Healthy Halloween & Fall Treats

October 15, 2021 7:58 pm

While it may be tempting to load up on sugary treats during this fall season, the consequences could be scarier than anything you’ll see at a haunted house! Avoid tooth decay and other dreadful dental diseases by sticking to a healthy diet this time of year. Read on for some of our favorite Halloween and fall treats.

  1. Fresh Apples
  2. Candy apples are one of the most dangerous of the seasonal delights. Extra sugary and extra sticky, they coat your teeth in sugar that lingers long after you’ve finished eating. This sugar feeds bad bacteria in your mouth. Well-fed bacteria produce acidic byproducts that damage and erode your tooth enamel. Swap that candy apple for a plain fresh apple. There are many different kinds. Some of our favorites are Sweet Tango, Fuji, Honeycrisp, and Pink Lady. Fresh apples contain healthful fiber and vitamin C, plus their crunch helps clean the surface of your teeth as you chew.

  3. Sugar-Free Chewing Gum
  4. Sugar-free gum is a tasty treat that comes in a variety of flavors, from fruity to minty to spicy. Chewing sugarless gum helps clean your teeth and stimulates saliva production while you chew.

  5. Dark Chocolate
  6. Dark chocolate is lower in sugar than other candy and is easily rinsed away, meaning bacteria have less time to feast. Reasonable quantities also provide your body with antioxidants that can help reduce inflammation and improve heart health.

We Can Help You Avoid Frightful Dental Disease!

Avoid any dental scares at your next visit to the dentist by brushing your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time, flossing every day, consuming a balanced diet, and drinking plenty of water. We recommend visiting our Chandler dental office at least every six months so we can clean your teeth.
