How to Reduce Anxiety at the Dentist
March 31, 2025 6:11 pmDental anxiety is common, but at Cactus Point Dental, we strive to make every visit as calm and comfortable as possible. If you feel nervous about dental appointments, there are several ways to help ease your anxiety and make your experience stress-free.
Let us know about your anxiety
One of the best ways to reduce anxiety is open communication with our office staff. Let our team know about any concerns or fears you have—we’re here to help! We’ll walk you through each step of your treatment so you know what to expect, and we always move at a pace that feels comfortable for you. We can also take periodic breaks throughout your treatment any time you need.
Take advantage of our office amenities
Our office is designed with your comfort in mind. We offer private treatment rooms, so you can relax in a peaceful environment without distractions. During your visit, you can cozy up with a pillow and/or blanket, helping you feel more at ease. Plus, we have TVs with Netflix and Hulu access, so you can focus on your favorite show or movie rather than the procedure. Distraction is a great tool for reducing stress, and many patients find that watching TV makes their appointment go by much faster!
Practice Calming Techniques
Practicing deep breathing techniques before and during your appointment can also help you stay calm. Taking slow, deep breaths signals your body to relax, reducing feelings of tension. Progressive muscle relaxation, where you tense and then slowly relax different muscle groups, can also help ease anxiety. Some patients find that listening to calming music or a guided meditation before their appointment helps them feel more at ease. Arriving a little early to your appointment can also give you time to settle in and mentally prepare.
If you’re worried about discomfort, rest assured that we use gentle techniques and local anesthesia to keep you as comfortable as possible. Remember—we are on your side and always want our patients to have positive and productive dental visits! Contact us today to schedule your appointment and let us help you feel at ease in the dental chair!
